Lee Stevens
I moved into Doncaster Foyer because of a breakdown in the relationship with my family. I was accused of taking drugs and stealing. During this time I also split from my girlfriend and lost my house. I became depressed and very low.
I had been used to the family environment and so moving into the Foyer was a bit traumatic. I was unable to enrol at college due to my age, or find full time employment, which also played a part in my depression. However, the support I have received from the Foyer has helped me and I am keeping busy with lots of activities and feeling much better about myself.
During my time at the Foyer, I have gained a full City and Guilds Learning Power Award, represented the Foyer at a customer panel conference in London, and attended all in-house training and resident meetings. I have represented Doncaster Foyer at the SAHA Cup and at the World Cup Trials at Sheffield United Youth Academy, and also play football for The Salvation Army and have competed in a number of competitions. Because of my interest in football, I volunteered at Doncaster Rovers as a sports coach where I coached under-12s in schools. I will shortly be starting training at the Citizens Advice Bureau as I feel this will help me to gain employment in the future, and it would be nice to help other people.
The support I have had since living at Doncaster Foyer has been fantastic – from all the members of staff, the managers, project and support workers and night staff – and from friends and other residents. Eventually I hope to move on from the Foyer into my own place and get a career in football or join the army. I would also like to offer my support to Doncaster Foyer and help out in any way possible.
