The National Tenant Voice: the new voice of tenants, for tenants
The Government has announced that it will be setting up a new national tenants’ organisation during 2009.
In the summer of 2008 the Project Group was set up by the Government to consult and consider what a ‘National Tenant Voice’ organisation might do, how it might be set up and run.
They have now reported back, and the wheels are in motion to establish the organisation. It will be an advocate for all tenants in social housing, and help tenants communicate and organise together.
The Department for Communities and Local Government report 'Citizens of Equal Worth' explains how the National Tenant Voice will be set up, and goes on to say:
'National Tenant Voice represents a genuinely new approach to the social housing sector. It has the potential to be a new vibrant and inspirational initiative... Tenant leadership… will set its tone – tenants doing things for themselves – at the heart of the housing debate, working with Government and landlord organisations on more equal terms’
