‘Seeds of Exclusion’ – SAHA proud to support new Salvation Army Research Findings
The Salvation Army has recently launched its latest report regarding it's 'Seeds of Exclusion' research into the underlying reasons for individuals becoming socially excluded.  Â
The study is based on indepth interviews with almost 1,000 homeless people from across the UK conducted by The Salvation Army in conjunction with researchers from the University of Kent and University of Cardiff. Â
The study explores topics such as early life experiences, relationships in both childhood and adulthood, perceived reasons for homelessness and use of statutory support services. The report highlights differences between men and women taking part and how geographical location affects the responses. Â
Some extracted key findings include:
- According to those interviewed the biggest reason for homelessness is relationship breakdown.
- Over half of those responding spent most of their time alone.
- Over a quarter had experienced homelessness before 18 years of age.
- Only a quarter of those with substance misuse problems are accessing services.Â
The report identifies links between early life experiences and increased risk of homelessness and wider social exclusion.
SAHA, as a long standing partner with The Salvation Army. is proud to offer its support to the research and its findings.
